Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government, which is in the process of weeding out bogus borrowers among the 80 lakh accounts of farmers who have taken agricultural loans, has set November 5 as the target to announce the final list of beneficiaries of the loan waiver scheme.

According to the State government, all banks will be provided with the list of farmers who are eligible by November 5. The government has even decided to furnish the list of ineligible farmers to each bank to enable the farmers to know why their account has been considered as unfit for the scheme. According to C Kutumba Rao, the Vice-Chairman of AP State Planning Board, farmers can register their grievances from November 5 to 10. By November 15, farmers who are eligible for loan waiver would get 20 per cent of their loan amount credited to their respective bank accounts. As per the preliminary estimates, the government said there would be at least 15 lakh to 18 lakh bogus accounts in various banks

The banks, according to sources, have already submitted details pertaining to 95 per cent of the accounts of the farmers to the government. Following this, the government has started the process of validation of various accounts by matching them with Aadhaar numbers, ration cards and details of agricultural lands held by farmers to eliminate bogus borrowers.
