Hyderabad: The controversy regarding water utilisation in Srisailam project is set to take a legal turn with Telangana government deciding to approach the Supreme Court against Krishna River Management Board directions to stop hydel power generation after drawal of 3 tmc ft of water before Sunday night.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao convened a meeting with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, Advisor R Vidyasagar Rao and higher officials at Secretariat in the evening soon after the Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB) released its directions on the issue.
Emerging from the meeting, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao alleged that the Union government had acted against the interests of Telangana. According to him, KRMB has no authority to pass an order on utilisation of water, which he felt was the job of Bachawat Tribunal only.
“Our Advocate General is consulting legal experts and we will knock the doors of the apex Court soon,” Rao said. However, he sought to dispel fears of Telangana agriculture community, stating that alternative steps would be taken to ensure that standing crops are not affected due to lack of power supply.
He was highly critical of statements of Union Ministers for Power and Agriculture for their reported statements that no proposal from Telangana government was pending with them. Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao had himself written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure 500 MW power to bail the state out of present crisis. Till now this application had been pending, but the Union Power Minister was giving a different version, he rued. Harish stressed that TS was following the provisions of Reorganization Act like agreeing for join capital for Hyderabad for ten years, common admissions but AP CM had blatantly violated rules by not ensuring 54 percent of power to Telangana.
