Hyderabad: Stating that a notification to fill vacancies in the agriculture department would soon be released, Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao said the State government has decided to extend crop insurance to the coming Rabi season.

the Minister said a deadline of 45 days was given to fill up the existing vacancies in the agriculture department on need basis. Vacancies in the horticulture and others under his ministry would be filled through outsourcing. Also, government has decided to recruit Agriculture Extension Officers (AEOs) for every 1,000 hectors in the State, he said. Pulla Rao said that inspired by the success achieved in Karnataka, the government had taken a decision to introduce e-Marketing at different market yards in the State to help out farmers to sell their produce through this facility and to maximise their profits. The Minister added that the Radha Krishna Committee appointed on Agriculture and tenant farmers has submitted its report and the government would take necessary action on the recommendations of the report. He said the State government had sought the help of the Centre in setting up food processing units and parks in all 13 districts of the State and to establish cold storage facilities for every two to three districts.

He appealed the cotton, maize and red gram farmers not to resort to panic selling as the government would be starting centres to buy their produce for minimum support price. The Centre has also agreed to start an additional seven cotton buying centres in the State, he added.
