Hyderabad: A 26-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Safilguda late on Thursday night. According to Malkajgiri police, the deceased, B Saipriya, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her Sharada Nagar residence on Thursday night. Saipriya was allegedly harassed mentally and physically by her husband Anil Kumar for additional dowry for the last few months.
The couple got married two years ago. The family members of the woman told the police that Anil and his parents tortured their daughter for additional dowry due to which she resorted to the extreme step.
However, the police claim that there had been family feuds between the two previously and the only apparent cause was the marital discord.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, police registered a case against Anil Kumar and his family members under Sections 498-A (Subjecting a married woman to cruelty for dowry) and 306 (Abetment to commit suicide) of the IPC.
