BSE Sensex and Nifty edged higher in a session marked by choppiness because of derivative expiry today.The Sensex ended 52 points higher at 28,438 while Sensex gained 18 points to close at 8,494.

Traders also remained cautious ahead the release of July-September economic growth data on Friday and the RBI policy review on Tuesday.
Hemant Kale, founder of ZEST Capital, said the momentum looks strong and Nifty could rise to 8,660 in the near term.
The broader markets outperformed with BSE midcap and smallcap indices rising over 0.5 per cent.
Buying was seen in defensive sectors such as IT, FMCG and healthcare stocks. Among Nifty stocks, HCL Tech, Infosys and TCS rose between 1-2 per cent while HUL gained 2.6 per cent.
