Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Additional DG (Law & Order) RP Thakur on Friday said that with the Finance department sanction of Rs 100 crore, the police department would modernise the force in the State by providing new vehicles and ultra-modern equipment for them for better policing in a phased manner.

“Training of police personnel and technology adaptation are also on the anvil,” Thakur said adding that the move to modernise the Motor Transport and AP Police Department is part of an ongoing exercise to revamp the infrastructure to meet the demands against tackling crime.

He said the State government had given approvals for purchase of 2,422 vehicles including 1,314 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) of all categories, 21 Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), 1,000 motorcycles, etc., which would be allotted among key police establishments in the 13

districts with focus on the assignments like anti-extremists, anti-red sanders smuggling, etc. “We will buy new vehicles in a phased manner so as to strengthen the police force. The department also has the added responsibility of managing the 970 km coastline with its own marine policing units,” he said.
