Also, while two or three men huddled up near a small fire in the season is not an uncommon sight, desolated roads and an eerie silence in pitch-dark night is imaginably quite seemingly ghastly.
But the temperature drop on Wednesday night and early hours of Thursday were something the people were experiencing after a yawning long gap. Falling to the Season’s lowest temperature, the mercury in Hyderabad recorded at 9.2 degrees Celsius. Unfortunately, this is not the end of the cold spell.
According to YK Reddy, director in-charge, Metrological Department, the spell will continue for at least another 48 hours. “The drop in temperature on Thursday was because of the winds from the north and the north-east,” pointed out Reddy. “I can’t tell how the weather will change over the next few weeks. But in the next 48 hours, the city and the entire region of Telangana will be seeing lower temperatures,” he added.
It is not surprising that not only the malls even street-side hawkers, who are braving the chilly conditions, are able to sell winter-wear like hot cakes. Even last year, Hyderabad experienced a brief spell of similar conditions. The temperatures touched nine degrees in the second week of December, and an average low of 16 degrees Celsius the entire winter season. It is bound to be one hell of a ‘chilling’ Christmas, this time round.
