AP SEZs most suitable for industries: VSEZ chief
Special Economic Zones in Andhra Pradesh were suitable for all products and the investors could make use of the facilities now available with modern infrastructure, said Development Commissioner of Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) S Kishore.

Speaking to the media personnel on the sidelines of Road-Show and Investors meet organised by VSEZ here on Thursday, the development commissioner said with an investment of Rs 31,500 crore in 109 SEZs spread over in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Chattisgarh and the exports from these units amounted to Rs 32,000 crore in the 2013-14 financial year.
The growth during the current financial year could be around 10 per cent to 15 per cent in the exports from these SEZs. These zones have employed more than 1.5 lakh people.
On the non-starter zones, Kishore said there were some SEZs in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana which were not functioning well and they could be de-notified soon.
However, both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments have requested the Central Government to give some more time since the bifurcation had caused some difficulties.
Regarding VSEZ at Duvvada, the commissioner said 17 units were not functioning and they would be asked to close down. They could be be allotted to new industrial units. On the new proposals, Kishore said an IT Tower was being set up in VSEZ at cost of Rs.45 crore which would be ready in two years. The tower would have a data recovery centre. Similarly, many pharmaceutical companies were making inquiries to set up their units in Andhra Pradesh.
“We have to attract more engineering and manufacturing units,” he added. Similar road shows would be conducted at Vijayawada and Nellore to promote SEZs in the State.
The developers of the SEZs--Sricity Private Limited, Brandix India Apparel City Limited, APIIC, Kakinda SEZ, Ramky Pharma City India Limited and others highlighted the infrastructure facilities created in the SEZs and the details of the vacancy position .
