Hyderabad: Bulandshahar's District Magistrate B Chandrakala, who belongs to Grajana Palli village in Ella Reddy mandal in Karimnagar district, is carving out a name for herself in the hearts of people with her fearless campaign against corruption and lethargy among the government staff and contractors.

Chandrakala is a 2008 batch IAS officer. Hailing from a tribal family, she strove hard and secured entry into the IAS, securing the 409th rank in the Civil Services exams. Her husband A Ramulu works as deputy executive engineer in Sriramsagar Project at Lower Manair Dam and they have 9 year old daughter.

Chandrakala joined Koti Women's College in Hyderabad to study BA, but was married off in the second year. Her high aspirations prevented her from giving up studies and she completed MA (Economics) through distance education and started preparing for competive examinations. Her husband helped her and took care of the child.

She was finally selected for IAS. After training, she was posted as the CDO Allahabad. In April 2012, she was shifted as the DM of Hamirpur. Very soon, she was shifted and made the Mathura DM on June 8, 2014. She was only the second female District Magistrate of Mathura, after Anita Meshram. Even this post was short lived and within 129 days, she was transferred to Bulandshahar district.

On Thursday, Chandrakala visited the site of construction and noticed that the bricks used in construction of the road were of poor quality. Not willing to take it lightly, she came down heavily on the contractors and officials present there. An angry Chandrakala lambasted the officials saying "Shame on you! This is public money." She said though a lot of money was coming from the government no work was being done.

A fuming Chandrakala said, “Those who are executing the works should have some morality. It is clearly dead in you,” she told the officials who stood there tight-lipped. She also sought a detailed report from the civic body commissioner Pinki Garg. Cracking the whip on the corrupt officials, she ordered them to get good quality bricks and resume the work within two days.

A video, featuring the fearless DM shouting at the officers, has gone viral on the social networking platforms, namely YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. The video got 7, 417 hits on YouTube and was liked by 144 viewers.
