New Delhi: Two days ahead of the election results, exit poll surveys, barring one, have predicted absolute majority to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Jharkhand Assembly, while in Jammu & Kashmir, it will be a hung assembly, according to another survey. Counting of votes is scheduled for December 23.

  • Jammu & Kashmir likely to have hung assembly
  • Counting of votes in both the States on Dec 23

It seems there is mood for change in the Jammu and Kashmir. At least that is what the CSDS opinion poll projects. When asked who would be the preferred Chief Minister of the State, the highest number of votes went to Mufti Mohammed Sayeed of the PDP. He is followed by Omar Abdullah, where 14% in Jammu and 13% in Kashmir thought he should be the CM.

Voters in Jammu and the valley are completely divided and BJP's lotus may fail to bloom in the State that the party has been eyeing. According to the Exit Poll Results of C-Voter survey, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is heading towards hung assembly as no party seems to have a clear majority. A total of 44 Assembly seats is required to form the government. The Congress is way behind in the race winning just 4 to 10 seats while the other parties may win 2 to 8 seats.

However, the surveys, barring one, have predicted absolute majority to the BJP in Jharkhand. The surveys have put Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) as the second largest party followed by Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) and the Congress.

While Aaj Tak-Cicesro has predicted between 41 and 49 seats for the BJP in the 81-seat Jharkhand Assembly, ABP-Nielsen has projected a total of 52 seats to the BJP along with alliance partners. India TV-C Voter Exit Poll has predicted that the BJP, along with its partners, will bag 37 to 45 seats, and predicted that the BJP would be the single largest party.

In the 2009 assembly poll, the BJP and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha were stuck with 18 seats each. The BJP alone may get 34-38 seats and the AJSU is likely to win 3-5. Former chief minister Babulal Marandi-led JVM may get 12-16 seats, the ruling JMM may get 10-14 and Congress 4-6 seats, respectively. The RJD may get 3-5 seats and the others may get 4-8 seats.
