Vizianagaram: He never lets his hair down. He always wants to be in showbiz. He is none other than former Minister Botcha Satyanarayana. He was also former president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee when that State remained united.
Botcha Satyanarayana, who is known in his home district – Vizianagaram – as Sattibabu, is again in the news. While the TDP government is targeting him by threatening to expose alleged fraud involving proxy farm loans in the District Cooperative Bank and order fresh investigation into liquor scam, Satyanarayana is busy devising a strategy and fixing auspicious moment to join the BJP, according to reliable sources.
Sources here made it known that BJP national president Amit Shah is determined to rope in Botcha Satyanarayana as part of his strategy to strengthen the party in Andhra Pradesh. The strategy being adopted by the BJP shows that the party leadership is trying to steer a dominant Kapu community towards the party. A strong indication of BJP’s inclination to attract Satyanarayana into the party can be deduced from the statement made by party’s national executive committee member Somu Veera Raju. During his visit to Vizianagaram a few days ago, Veera Raju made it very clear that the “BJP has left its doors open for the Congress leaders.” When specifically asked whether Satyanarayana was also welcome into the party, he replied positively. Against this backdrop, rumour mill is in overdrive now on Sattibabu’s next move. According to sources who claim to be privy to inside information, Satyanarayana has attached some conditions to join the saffron party. The conditions include the demand that he be appointed as president of the BJP State unit. He is likely to join the BJP either in the last week of December or third week of January. He is reportedly planning to hold a massive public meeting by mobilising not less than one lakh people to announce his decision to join the saffron party.
