Hyderabad: In view of the security concerns raised by the Naval authorities to the proposal to develop an airport at Atchuthapuram in Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu on Monday said an alternative location at Bheemunipatnam has been identified to develop the Greenfield project.

Speaking to newsmen in the Assembly lobbies, he said government identified more than 1,000 acres of land for the proposed airport at Bheemunipatnam after the defence authorities objected to the earlier location. The Civil Aviation authorities already visited the new location and responded positively, he informed.

The Minister added government would take up land acquisition once the Union government approves the proposal. Agricultural lands were also included in the place for which the government would have to pay compensation to the affected farmers. Ayyanna Patrudu said following huge demand from domestic and international investors community, the government speed up the process to set up the airport on the fast pace.

Most of the industrialists were keen to make huge investments in Visakhapatnam which has been upgraded as one of the mega IT hub in the new State of Andhra Pradesh. The managements of several multinational companies requested the government to develop direct air connectivity to the coastal city from other parts of the world so that business could be promoted in a big way.

The Minister further added that 1,000 acres of land was also identified to set up a film city and promote Visakhapatnam as hub of film production. A notification would be issued soon inviting the interested firms to set up their production units in the new film city.
