Adilabad: Intense cold wave conditions are prevailing in the district, with the lowest minimum temperature of 3.9 degrees Celsius being recorded here on December 20. Temperatures of four degrees Celsius was recorded on December 18 and eight degrees Celsius on December 17. Roads across the district are covered with fog till 10 am. Municipal workers who sweep roads early in the morning are facing severe inconvenience as also newspaper boys and walkers.

Temperatures have gone down significantly in the Agency areas. Viral fevers have been rampant in the district. Local residents fear that the dip in temperature may lead to spread of viral fevers. Farmers are not going to fields during morning hours. Residents are not venturing out before 10 am to attend to their daily chores. People are returning homes by 5 pm fearing intense cold. Roads are deserted by 6 pm People have been spotted enjoying the warmth of bonfires at various places.

Following reports that students of Social Welfare hostels are facing problems due to falling temperature, Collector M Jagan Mohan directed mandal officials to inspect them and present a report on the prevailing conditions. Minister Jogu Ramanna and the Collector visited several hostels.
