Fire breaks out in oil processing unit

Khammam: A fire broke out in Oilfed's Oil Processing Unit at Aswaraopet in Khammam district on Tuesday afternoon. According to information, the fire broke out when the mechanics were welding a bucket elevator.

Sparks that came out from the welding spread across the oil palm bunches. The local firefighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. The Oil Processing Unit Manager P Seetarama Raju said that it was a minor fire mishap and there wasn't much loss. No one was hurt in the incident, he said.

According to preliminary estimates the loss was put at Rs 3 lakh.

It would have been a major fire accident had the incident took place when the crushing unit was on run, workers said.
