Airplanes did exist 7,000 years ago: Union Minister
Seconding Captain Anand Bodas, a retired pilot and trainer, who presented a paper on ancient Indian aviation technology at the Indian Science Congress earlier this week, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan said aeroplanes existed way back in 7000 years ago.
Hyderabad: Seconding Captain Anand Bodas, a retired pilot and trainer, who presented a paper on ancient Indian aviation technology at the Indian Science Congress earlier this week, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Harsh Vardhan said aeroplanes existed way back in 7000 years ago.
“In the Indian Science Congress, they were only discussing the history of Science. You see, one should not feel ashamed of our glorious past. We have to accept it and it has been accepted even by the West. Not only in Vedas, but several international documents also show that we had huge amounts of knowledge in every field,” said Harsh Vardhan while addressing newspersons at a hotel here on Thursday.

Harsh Vardhan further said that Indians were superior not only in science but also in medicine, art, culture and commerce. People should not mind about the paper which highlighted achievements and experiences of the past, the Minister added. “So if you’re only basking in the glory of our ancient past we would never think of what we have to do for the future. We should feel proud of our great achievements also and at the same time we should not forget that we have to make our future brighter than the glorious past,” the Minister said.
The Minister said the government had devised a plan to woo back Indian origin researchers to work in the country. The government had already announced a package of incentives to Indian-origin STEM research so that they could get competitive salaries in India, he added.
Harsh Vardhan stressed on the need to have renewable energy resources. He said his department would contribute in a big way for strengthening and promoting renewable energy resources. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Y Sujana Chowdary said the government had plans to focus on solar research.
Chowdary stated that the department had started working to have scientific technology footprint in every State. “If everything permits, we will like to have science cities in most the States in the country,” he said. He said the department had plans to improve INSPIRE programme. “In order to have big success of ‘Make in India’, science and technology is going to act like growth engine,” he added.
