Farmers stage novel protest
In a novel protest demanding power supply during day time, farmers of Pokalagudem village under Chandrugonda mandal in Khammam district staged a dharna in front of the sub-station with a dead python on Sunday.
Khammam: In a novel protest demanding power supply during day time, farmers of Pokalagudem village under Chandrugonda mandal in Khammam district staged a dharna in front of the sub-station with a dead python on Sunday.
It is learnt that late on Saturday night, the farmers found a python in their fields when they went to turn on the pump sets. They came along with the dead python and staged a sit-in protest before the sub-station demanding power supply in the day time.
According to farmers, frequent power cuts were taking place in all the villages of the mandal for the past few days and their repeated appeals had not yielded any result. Farmers said they were hitherto confronted with problems such as crash in prices of crops and the fertilizer shortage, must now face the danger of being bitten by snakes and scorpions when they venture out in the dark to turn on irrigation pump sets.
