Kalwakurthi: Activists of Students Federation of India (SFI) burnt the effigy of US President Barack Obama at Kalwakurthi Chowrasta in Mahabubnagar district on Sunday.

They raised slogans against Obama’s visit to India to attend Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest.

The SFI leaders said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not have invited Obama for the Republic Day celebrations.

They also resented foreign investments in India.

They said they had organised the protest as per the call given by the SFI State president. Meanwhile in Khammam, the CPI (ML) New Democracy held a protest rally in the town on Sunday opposing the visit of American President Barack Obama and also burnt his effigy.

Speaking to the media, CPI (ML) leader A Venkateshwarlu said that the American government was responsible for invading several countries and killing lakhs of people.

Coming down heavily on the Central government for inviting Barack Obama as chief guest for the Republic Day function, Venkateshwarlu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was protecting the interests of the MNCs and creating conditions for foreign investors who loot the natural resources of the country.

Many parts of Telangana witnessed similar protest against the visit of Obama.
