Our Constitution was adopted on 26th Nov 1949. It came into force on 26th Jan 1950. This particular date had been selected because on this day i.e., 26th January the resolution of "Poorna Swaraj" was passed during Lahore Session of Indian National Congress,1930 under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Constitution is the Supreme book of this nation in the matters of good governance. We are proud that the founding fathers of our Constitution made India as a Sovereign, Democratic and Republic with an essence of pluralism blended with the diversity of this great country. Later Socialist and Secular features were added to the constitution by the 42nd Amendment Act of 1976. These features except 'Socialist' are the basic structure of our constitution (viz Kesavananda Bharati vs State of Kerala,1973 case) which are subjected to Judicial review if they are amended by the parliament.

Also, Freedom is something which has to be taken,no one will give it. Hence,if we won't safeguard our freedom then it will again lead to colonialism. In the same way, there must be some limitations on liberty of citizens. Hence,In this regard, Fundamental Rights are enshrined in constitution ,if violated, one can approach Supreme Court under Article 32 and High Court under Article 226 which has original jurisdiction regarding Fundamental Rights except during national emergency. Dr. BR Ambedkar said that Article 32 is the "Heart and Soul of the Constitution" (Constitutional Assembly Debates).

The Right to Practise, Profess and Propagate of one's own Religion guaranteed under Articles (25-28) are the ethos of this nation. Under these safeguards, there exists a varied cultural and geographical diversity besides other Fundamental Rights from Articles 12-35.

Apart from these, there are certain fundamental duties enacted by 44th Amendment Act ,1978. We have to follow these guidelines in order to become good and respectable citizens of India. Let's pledge to fight against Crime,Terrorism,Injustice and Corruption in an appropriate manner. Let's actively take part in Nation building in the form of participatory governance and make it one of the developed democracy and set an example for other nations.
