Tough norms to check fake candidates from availing fee reimbursement

Hyderabad: Starting from the next academic year, Aadhaar card and PAN would be mandatory for seeking an admission in any college or for sops like fee reimbursement. The cabinet sub-committee on the fee reimbursement has drafted tough norms to checkmate fake candidates and colleges availing the scheme.

“When a student takes an admission, he/she shall submit the Aadhaar card and PAN card to the colleges which will be hosted on a website. This information will be scrutinised by the social welfare department before making the candidate eligible for the scheme,” said government sources.

The need for tough norms for fee reimbursement came in as the government scrapped FAST scheme which would be applicable to only those students whose parents or ancestors are residents of Telangana before November 1, 1956. Government sources said that students who secure rank below 4000 rank in any common entrance tests would be eligible for full reimbursement. However, the students who secure above 4000 rank would be given a partial amount.

According to government sources, fee reimbursement would be only applicable to the students who are not drawing scholarships from any other agencies. It will not be applicable to the students whose attendance is less than 75 per cent and with backlogs. “Students who are detained would not be eligible for the scheme. It will be only given to the students who are promoted to the next year,” sources said.

Besides, the government is planning to give partial amount to students who are pursuing specialized courses like MTech, M Pharma etc in order to reduce burden on the state coffers. “The government is planning to give fixed amount or percentage. However, students will not receive total amount under the scheme,” sources said.

Further sources said the government has decided to credit the amount directly into students’ account who is studying in the private colleges. For students studying in college with hostel facility, the government has decided to send it to the concerned principals or deans, sources added. It is learnt the government has decided not to extend the scheme to erring minority colleges.
