Scoring 307 in the first innings, India won the toss and elected to bat. With Shikar Dhawan scoring a scintillating century which was well supported by Ajinkya Rahane’s tremendous knock of 79, India brought in a lot of trouble for the South African bowlers.


Chasing the total, South Africa kept losing wickets right when F du Plessis and A B De Villiers seemed to be settling down for big knocks. Defeating South Africa for the first time in a World Cup tournament, India broke the jinx with a bang.


R Ashwin’s magic spell of 3-41 backed by Mohammed Shami and MM Sharma succeeded in sending the South African batsman back to crease. South Africa was all out for 177 in 40.2 overs.
