In a recent study report revealed on Saturday, the thermal power plants in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh state are among the most inefficient and polluting in the entire country.

Due to the non-compliance to poor performance, poor management practices and pollution standards, the thermal power plants assessed in the two states were red flagged.

The New Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment for its Green Ratings Project assessed as many as 47 thermal power plants and said that none of these plant managements cooperated for the study.

Based on 60 parameters like coal and water use, pollution and ash generation, the plants were rated and with a score of 25 per cent, the 2600 MW National Thermal Power Corporation Rama-gundam plant was rated best ranking 17th in the country.

Andhra Pradesh government-run APGenco NTTPS thermal power plant scored 21 per cent in Vijayawada. As both the state-run plants in Kothagudem were ranked low, Telangana State has more reasons to worry.
