Freight rate hike will impact all sectors: FTAPCCI
Welcoming the Railway Budget presented in parliament on Thursday, Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) however said that the hike in freight charges would impact all segments of the economy.
Hyderabad: Welcoming the Railway Budget presented in parliament on Thursday, Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) however said that the hike in freight charges would impact all segments of the economy.
“The increase in the freight rates for cement, coal, iron & steel, and urea will lead to the high cost of raw material and affect the all segments of industries,” Shiv Kumar Rungta, President, FTAPCCI, said in a statement.
He however thanked Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu for sparing the passengers of a fare hike and proposing to invest Rs 8 lakh crore over next five years towards passenger amenities.
He has also lauded the railway’s intention to partner with private sector to improve rolling stock fleet and also involvement of private sector in railway station development, saying the move would add to the faster development of all levels of the railways.
“The new initiatives like introduction of SMS alerts and development of paperless ticketing system and extending facility of Wi-Fi to category B stations, e-catering in 108 trains and ordering food on the IRCTC website, safety measures of level crossings are in right direction to meet the needs of passengers,” he said.
Rungta also hoped that the Railway Minister would allocate new projects and train services to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
