Nalgonda: MP Gutta Sukendhar Reddy on Friday urged the State government to focus on completion of pending railway projects in addition to taking steps for development of roads.

Addressing a press conference here, Sukendhar Reddy said he had earlier written to the State government to bear 50 per cent of the expenditure of laying railway lines, which would speed up the completion of pending projects.

Recalling that the Telangana government had earmarked Rs 10,000 crore for development of roads, he urged the government to accord equal impotence to railway projects as it would financially benefit the common people. He pointed out that railway fares were quite less compared when compared with bus fares.

Expressing mixed response on the Railway Budget, the Congress MP regretted that only Rs 1 crore was allocated for the special project of Nalgonda-Marcharla line, which was sanctioned in 1997-98.

He suggested that governments of both Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh should take initiative for bringing Hyderabad-Vijayawada railway line through Suryapet as it would connect the capitals of the two States.

Referring to the filing of defamation case by Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy against Congress leader Ponnam Prabhakar, the Nalgonda MP said the Congress leader should come forward to provide evidence substantiating his allegations of corruption against the minister, if the government ordered an inquiry. The State government has failed to do it, he added.
