Centre not delaying the formation of separate High Court for Telangana: BJP

Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday blamed the Telangana Government for delay in bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh High Court. Addressing a press conference at the State BJP office here, BJP National Executive Member N Ramchandra Rao clarified that the Central Government was not delaying the formation of separate High Court for Telangana.

He said that Union Law Minister Sadananda Goud had written a letter to the State Government directing it to identify a suitable location to establish Telangana High Court. However, the TRS Government simply ignored the directions and has been wrongly blaming the Centre for the delay.

He reminded that five TRS MPs including Visveshwar Reddy, Balka Suman, Vinod Kumar, Seetharam Naik and Jithender Reddy, along with Bar Council members interacted with the Union Law Minister for one hour on the issue and despite his request for identification of location, no steps have been taken so far. Ramchandra Rao said that the responsibility of bifurcation of High Court lies with the Chief Justices of Supreme Court and High Court and the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Therefore, it was wrong to blame the Centre for the on-going controversy. He said that the Centre would come into picture only after identification of location for Telangana High Court. He accused Chief Ministers N Chandrababu Naidu (AP) and K Chandrasekhar Rao (Telangana) of promoting enmity among the Telugu speaking people over the issue of separate High Courts.

The BJP leader sought the intervention of Governor ESL Narasimhan to resolve the issue. He also condemned the ongoing protest by the lawyers and said the boycott of court proceedings was a not a good sign for the judiciary. He said that the Telangana Government should give a concrete assurance to the lawyers on the bifurcation of High Court to end the ongoing protest.
