KCR lays stone for 600 mw plant.Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday laid the foundation for the 600 mw third unit of the Singareni Thermal Power Project (STPP) at Pegadipalli in Jaipur mandal in Adilabad district on Tuesday.

Adilabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday laid the foundation for the 600 mw third unit of the Singareni Thermal Power Project (STPP) at Pegadipalli in Jaipur mandal in Adilabad district on Tuesday. Works of the two STPP units, with an installed capacity of 1,200 mw, are going at a brisk space.

SCCL is building the plant with an investment of Rs 3,750 crore in Pegadpally village in the coal belt of Jaipur. The third phase will be completed and commissioned by December 2017.Rao said Telangana would become a power surplus state in 2018 with total installed capacity of 23,000 MW. At present, power plants to generate 6,000 MW are being developed with an investment of Rs 36,000 crore.

The Chief Minister arrived at Jaipur from Hyderabad by helicopter. Ministers A Indrakaran Reddy, Jogu Ramanna, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar, people’s representatives and officials gave a rousing welcome to KCR. The Singareni Collieries will have dual advantage. Cost of production will come down and income will be generated through power sale.If it utilises 150 mw, the remaining 1,650 mw will be useful for the State. About 400 tonnes of coal is required to produce one mw. An estimated 72 lakh tonnes of coal is needed to generate 1,800 mw.
