Surya (Nikhil) is a young lad battling the real Surya (read sun). He has a rare genetic disorder that bars him from stepping out into the sun. Well, that itself is an interesting premise that would easily drive one's curiosity and make you reach theatres to watch the flick, right?

Yes and things do progress on an interesting note. Where else would you meet a person whose life begins after 6.30 pm or whenever the sun begins to set and ends before sunrise in the morning?

And then enters Sanjana (Tridha) into his dull life, a television anchor who he manages to court. However, this love story is the main conflict that manages to add some substance to the plot.Coming from Nikhil who has been part of films that pitched in unconventional ideas like ‘Swamy Ra Ra’ and ‘Karthikeya’, expectations were obviously high on the film.

Nikhil

Maybe it is the expectations that disappoint us. Despite holding attention with the plotline, director Karthik Ghattamaneni fails to do so with his narration as he takes the story forward. In an attempt to add some commercial angle to the otherwise avant-garde plot, he gives us some pale sequences the biggest undoing of the film. Nevertheless, he does an amazing job behind the camera (he doubled up as a cameraman too). For a film that mostly unfolds at night, the vibrancy of colours on screen is a delight to watch. That aside, 'Surya vs Surya' is sprinkled with lot of wonderful performances like that of Nikhil, Tridha, Tanikella Bharani and Satya. One wonders if anyone else could have done justice to their part like they did. Tridha, especially, comes as a breath of fresh air and it would be interesting to see more of her work in the future.
