India on Top For Last Three Years For Highest Rape Cases. Indian men have become famous all over the world, not for any good reason but for committing rapes more than any place in the world for the last three years.

Indian men have become famous all over the world, not for any good reason but for committing rapes more than any place in the world for the last three years. The harsh behavior towards women, children; openly criticizing women and girls for their dresses or travelling at night and judging themselves with the right to rape these women publicly, as it happened in the recent rape case interview controversy where a Delhi rapist who was sentenced to death for his heinous crime, was not ashamed of his act, but on the contrary accused the victim for the rape for going out at 9 pm with her boy friend. The problem is not the accused who was an illiterate man but those who are educated – similar to the criminal’s advocate who accused the victim and not the rapist. All these men have the thoughts like Taliban where women should stay at home always and cannot go out for any reason, or else they would be raped.

Now, the days are gone when girls and women would fearlessly walk on the roads. They were not worried about their lives or dignity; including the harassment they suffer physically or sexually by men. At the present, it would not be wrong if we say that women are not safe even from their relatives; leave alone the strangers. Thanks to the advancing technology and increasing modernization, the world has turned into a materialistic global village, where all one cares about is the worldly possessions. Not only are the women unsafe, but are also exposed to many violent crimes. Crime, rape, murder and suicide rates have increased manifold. This is the testimony of the fact that not a single soul is safe. Girls and women are equally exposed to harassment - physical, sexual, psychological and social.

The sexual assault is rapidly increasing day by day. Rape is one of India’s most common crimes against women. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 24,923 rape cases were reported across India in 2012, but experts agree that the number of unreported cases of sexual assault brings the total much higher than the actual figure. Out of these, 24,470 were committed by parents/family members, relatives, neighbors and other known persons implying that, men known to the victim committed 98 per cent of reported rapes. The latest estimates suggest that a new case of rape is reported every 22 minutes in India.

India has been on the top of the list for rape cases for the last three years. And the sad part is even after a lot of protests staged for spreading awareness, no constructive steps have been taken by the government to eradicate this brutal act from the country. Male prejudiced behaviour is on the peak and most of the men are ignorant of the adverse effects of this crime. The capital of India, Delhi, is the hub while areas of UP are also actively involved in rape crimes. After every twenty minutes (which was twenty two in 2012) a girl is raped, and four out of every ten women are under threat.

Nearly 1500 girls were raped at the start of this year in just one month and the rate is increasing since then. The horrifying thought is that four to five women are killed daily after being raped. The “Roast Busters” gangster includes boys who forcibly take the teenage girls and commit gang rape. The gangsters were then caught but the stories of girls being sexually violated have left people in shock.

The recent case of raping an old age nun by robbers has shocked the nation, and from every corner it was condemned, but the problem is still the same as before. When Delhi rape case surfaced, the nation mainly capital Delhi showed reaction from people particularly women and girls to stop or at least to reduce the crime rate of rape cases, but the central and state governments failed to take any positive steps to reduce the cases. On the contrary, the reports of minor girls, working women and aged women rape cases jumped to a stunning figure which is alarming to any girl, woman working or live at home alone. Just condemning the rape case and showing sympathy to the victim won’t change the situation, as normally the politicians do after every case.

The media, print and electronic are doing their best to invoke people and to make the issue on their prime news along with criticizing the political/legal system for a change, hoping that their efforts would bring safety to women. But, if the people of India and social welfare societies themselves don’t pressurize the government and police department to reduce the crime, or act quickly to catch the culprits, bring the judgment swifter to execute the criminals – the issue remains unsolved as usual and the criminals are free to do whatever they like.
