Tension prevailed on the JNTU-Hyderabad campus at Kukatpally when the students of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) ransacked furniture and flower pots placed at the Rector’s office. A couple of days ago, ABVP students had organised “Sujana Technical Fest” on the campus and erected flags in a big way across the campus as part of the fest.

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed on the JNTU-Hyderabad campus at Kukatpally when the students of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) ransacked furniture and flower pots placed at the Rector’s office. A couple of days ago, ABVP students had organised “Sujana Technical Fest” on the campus and erected flags in a big way across the campus as part of the fest. However, after the fest, they failed to remove the flags and Rector Kishan Kumar Reddy questioned the students as to why they failed to remove them.

He allegedly telephoned the students and scolded them in abusive language and naming the caste of students. Irate ABVP students boycotted classes on Friday and demanded action against the Rector. Later, the students ransacked Rector’s office and released the conversation of Rector over the phone to the media.

ABVP student leader Dileep also lodged a complaint with the police under SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act for scolding the students using caste name. Meanwhile, police took seven ABVP students into custody after receipt of a complaint from the university officials. Tension prevailed on the campus after the arrest of student leaders.
