Hyderabad: Though the Union government has agreed to include Telangana in the Power For All ( PFA) scheme, which is intended to provide 24x7 power supply to domestic, commercial and industrial consumers, it will have to wait for another two years before the scheme becomes a reality.
An 11-member official delegation led by Joint Secretary to Union Power Ministry Jyothi Arora on Monday held a meeting with the officials of Telangana Energy Department headed by TS Transco Chairman and Managing Director D Prabahkara Rao here on Monday and discussed the possibility for the inclusion of Telangana under PFA scheme. They told the officials that they would incorporate the State in the scheme from 2017.
The State officials submitted required documents to the delegation including free power supply to 20 lakh agriculture pump sets and the government’s plans to establish new thermal power projects by TS Genco to achieve the status of ‘surplus power State’ in the next three years. The delegation comprised of the officials from Power Finance Corporation (PFC), Rural Electricity Corporation ( REC) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited.
The Transco CMD said the State government had impressed upon the delegation on the need for inclusion of the State under PFA scheme. The Central delegation responded positively to the government’s request after presenting a detailed report on the State’s capability in achieving targets in power generation in next three years .
It may be remembered that peeved over not considering Telangana as one of the eligible State under PFA scheme, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao recently shot off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to save Telangana from the power crisis and also raised the issue of power sharing between Telangana and AP after the latter scrapped PPAs entered by the Discoms with AP Genco in the united Andhra Pradesh.
Stating that the Union Ministry and Telangana government would enter into an agreement on PFA scheme shortly, the official said the Centre was also requested to allocate Rs 6,200 crore under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi programme to strengthen the energy infrastructure and supply quality power to all villages in the State.
