Demanding for early conduct of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls, the Telangana BJP on Tuesday criticized the ruling TRS government for delay in the GHMC elections.

BJP state president and MLA G Kishan Reddy said that the Hyderabad High Court has been informed through an affidavit by the Telangana government that 249 days would be required to complete the necessary procedures to hold the GHMC elections.

Kishan Reddy said that the delay has been cited by the TRS to the civic body over completion of process of delimitation and reservation of wards. Nevertheless, he said that the same procedures were completed by the previous government within a week along with conducting polls earlier.

The BJP chief alleged that the TRS is afraid of facing elections for GHMC in view of the outcome of the recently held council elections which is the reason behind the delay. He also claimed that the BJP party will emerge victorious in the GHMC polls defeating TRS.

When questioned regarding the TRS government's decision to levy tax on all private vehicles, stage carriers and goods carriers entering the state from April 1, Kishan Reddy said that the move will burden the common man with increase in rates of essential commodities and termed it as a hasty decision.
