Hyderabad: The curtains veiling the controversy pertaining to the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) were pulled down on Friday as the panel led by senior actor Rajendra Prasad won with thumping majority. Rajendra Prasad, who had the backing of Chiranjeevi, Nagendra Babu and most of the small time actors, was elected as the President of the association. The MAA elections this time were touted as the toughest battle with rival panel led by senior actress Jayasudha pitted against Rajendra Prasad.

She was supported by actors like Krishna, Vijaya Nirmala, MAA Former President Murali Mohan, Krishnam Raju and others. Rajendra Prasad won with 85 vote majority over his rival Jayasudha, who did not even come to the counting hall as she probably sensed the defeat. However, actor Naresh, a close relative of Jayasudha, was present during the counting.

Talking to media later, Rajendra Prasad said the poll battle was so intense that at one point of time he even received threats and accusations and was subjected to pressure to withdraw from the polls. “Though many forces tried to single me out like that of Abhimanyu, I, indeed, proved to be Arjun with complete mandate,” he said, adding that for next two years he would serve the poor artistes through MAA.

Mohan Babu’s daughter and actress Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna became Vice President unanimously as there was no competition. Sivaji Raja became secretary by defeating Ali in the elections. In a related development, Actor Sivaji Raja expressed discontent at comedian Ali for deceiving him. Ali though promised to be out of fray, deliberately contested against me, Raja said. The MAA results were out with city civil court giving green signal. MAA former President Murali Mohan announced the results declaring Rajendra Prasad as his successor.

He stated that despite the competition, the entire field is one and would fight for the cause of poor and small time actors. “There are no differences between us,” he said, adding that the MAA would work for the welfare of the artistes. In the list of winners, Rajendra Prasad panel won all the four seats contested. The panel includes Rajendra Prasad, Sivaji Raja, Kadambari Kiran and E Sriram. From Jayasudha’s panel those who won include – Parachuri Venkateswar Rao as Treasurer, Thanikella Bharani as Executive Secretary, Naresh and Raghu Babu as Joint Secretaries.

Meanwhile, the Executive Committee comprises of Benerjee, Brahmaji, Charmi, Rajeswar, A Sriram, Geethanjali, Harinath Babu, Hema, Jaki, Jayalakshmi, Kadambari Kiran, Narsing Yadav, Rajiv Kanakala, Sri Sashanka, Vidyasagar and others. Earlier, the much hyped elections faced a stumbling block with actor and producer O Kalyan moving the High Court after being pulled up by city the civil court, which slapped him Rs 10,000 penalty. It may be noted that out of 702 votes, 394 turned out to exercise their franchise in the elections held on March 29.
