Visakhapatnam: The 21st Congress of CPI-M has demanded repealing of Armed Forces (Special Act) of 1958 and also withdrawal of armed forces from North-Eastern region. It urged the government to concentrate on a comprehensive development of the region.Expressing serious concern over the continuing state of neglect of the North-Eastern region, a resolution moved in the Congress on Friday said the North-East region had suffered from apathy right from the British rule and indiscrimination continued to undermine the region even after decades of Independence.

The leaders felt that the region had suffered despite being rich in natural and human resources. The resources had been exploited but never utilised for the development of the region. The major obstacle to the progress of the region was lack of investment in basic infrastructure. The leaders at the meeting suggested that there was an urgent need to ensure all-round development. The region also needed a quantum leap in power generation, the resolution said.
