Separate EAMCET for pvt medical colleges in AP

Hyderabad: For the first time a separate entrance examination (EAMCET-AC) for admissions into private medical colleges will be held on May 24.Stating this here on Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said there were 2,000 medical seats in the State. Of the total, 50 per cent of the seats would be filled up with regular EAMCET under convener quota.It was after many deliberations with the private colleges that the government had evolved this mechanism to bring transparency in the admissions of private medical colleges in the State, with students with merit.
Srinivas said 1300 doctors would be available to AP this year Clarifying on the shortage of doctors in the State, the minister said that under AP Vidya Vigyana Parishad about 650 doctors, under State Director of Health another 540 doctors would be available this year. Apart from this, the State had already given its nod to fill up about 120 doctors. In addition to this, about 130 more doctors were expected to come to State as per the division of employees under the Andhra Pradesh Re-organsiaton Act.
In total about 1300 doctors would be available to serve in the State this year, Srinivas said. State government has also decided to immediately recruit 1000 nursing staff and 2600 more nursing staff in a phased manner, along with technicians. Further, infrastructure at 71 hospitals would be provided with NABARD funds, he said adding that construction of new buildings at community health centers, repairs to the existing buildings would be carried out.
