The Chief Minister has formally launched the works of Mission Kakatiya at Pedda Cheruvu of Chandupatla village in the district. He travelled on a bullock cart from the foundation-stone to the place inside the tank, where silt removing works were launched. Speaking at a meeting organised on the occasion, Chandrashekar Rao said, that Kakatiya rulers have developed watersheds and chain tanks in Telangana during 11th century.

Based on the water storage capacity of tanks, which have been constructed during Kakatiya dynasty, the Bachawat Tribunal Award has allocated 265 tmc of water including 177 tmc from Godavari and 93 tmc from Krishna river to Telangana in the year 1974. If all the tanks have received full level of water every year, there would be no scope for drought in the Telangana region, he added.

He also assured that his government would make all efforts to get proper share to the state in sharing of river waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. When a woman from the gathering, said they would fight with Andhra Pradesh rulers to bring water to the state, the Chief Minister felt that he wants such type of support and directed his personal staff to collect her details and phone number.

Impressed by the size of Pedda Cheruvu of Chandupatla village, the Chief Minister felt that Rs 50 lakh sanctioned for restoration of the tank under Mission Kakatiya were not sufficient for desilting in 102-acre tank bid and announced additional Rs 1.5 crore for the tank.If the feeder channels were constructed to the tank from Puttagandi project, sufficient water levels would be available in the tank throughout the year, he opined.

Directing the Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham to camp at Chandupatla tank, which was constructed during Kakatiya dynasty, for the next 15 days and monitor the works personally, the Chief Minister has announced that he would sanction Rs 5 crore for the development of Nakrekal constituency if he satisfied with the restoration of the tank when he visits it again in July.

Terming Chandupatla, where Rani Rudrama Devi had died in a war, as a historic village, Rao said that the village will be developed as a tourist place by constructing an arch and installing statue of Rani Rudrama Devi. He pointed out that there is inscription of death of Rani Rudrama Devi engraved on a stone at the village.
