Veteran actor Sachin Khedekar will be seen playing a senior journalist in a big city newspaper in the upcoming Marathi film Nagrik. Is the film inspired by the story of crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey?

Khedekar plays a journalist called Shyam Jagdale who works for a city daily called Aaj Mumbai. Due to his honesty, he makes enemies and becomes a victim of politics. The makers do not want to publicise the film as a J Dey biopic and wants to call it a work of fiction to avoid any controversy.
Nagrik is also likely to be released around Dey’s death anniversary on June 11. The veteran journalist was murdered in 2011. Produced by Sachin Chavan under Sacchi Entertainment and directed by Jaypraad Desai, Nagrik revolves around the character of a senior reporter caught in a political conspiracy. But it is also inspired by several real life political current affairs.
