ATM robbery accused  P  Shiva Kumar ReddyHyderabad: The sleuths of Task Force (Central, West and North) claimed to have busted the SBI ATM robbery case, which took place in SR Nagar police limits on Wednesday with the arrest of a robber on Thursday. The cops recovered a country-made pistol, six live rounds, three ATM cards, including victim’s card, a gold chain, a finger ring, five mobile phones including victim’s phone, a button knife, a handkerchief and Rs 4,000 in cash from his possession.


The police arrested Pedapally Shiva Kumar Reddy (21), an inmate of Sai Durga Hostel, Ameerpet and a native of YSR district, under Section 392 (punishment for robbery) of the IPC and Section 25 (1) (b) and 27 of Arms Act, 1959 for threatening and robbing Chintha Sri Lalitha (24), a software engineer and an inmate of Deeksha Sadan ladies hostel, Madura Nagar. The sleuths arrested him on Thursday while he was moving suspiciously near Ameerpet area.


Explaining the modus operandi, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, M Mahender Reddy said to the media persons that Shiva Kumar studied up to Class X and migrated three years ago to the city for livelihood. “He was going through financial crisis and hatched a plan to make easy money. A day before committing the crime, he conducted a recce of the area.


On Wednesday around 7.20 am, the victim was on her way to office and she went to the SBI ATM located near Value Mart in Yousufguda area. While she was trying to withdraw the money, Shiva Kumar barged into the kiosk covering his face with a handkerchief holding a pistol in his hand and threatened her not to raise an alarm. He demanded her to give the money and snatched her gold chain, ear tops, finger ring, cell phone and debit card (Royal Bank of Scotland),” the CP said adding that he procured the 9 mm country-made pistol from Maharashtra for Rs 25,000 and he confessed that he committed the offence for the first time.

“Shiva Kumar was handed over with the seized property to SR Nagar police station for further investigation,” DCP (Task Force) B Limba Reddy said.The CP said that they have asked bank officials to list out all the ATM kiosks in the city. “ATMs in unsafe areas may be relocated. We wrote letters to all bank managers to strictly adhere to RBI guidelines on security measures,” he said.
