The new pipelines will be laid for a stretch of four kilometres by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the works are expected to be completed in about two weeks. In this period, no traffic will be permitted on Upper Tank Bund from the Ambedkar statue area towards the Sailing Club.

Works on 2,375-mm diametre MS trunk sewer mains which began on Friday

Road cutting works are presently being carried out between Karbala Maidan and the Sailing Club. The Water Board, with a budget of Rs 58.96 crore, is laying the trunk sewer pipe line as part of the beautification of Hyderabad. The major chunk of industrial waste flows through these nalas into the Hussain Sagar which will now be diverted.

It is reported that nearly 350 million litres of sewage and industrial waste from Kukatpally nala would be diverted downstream through the four km trunk sewer line each day. Currently, water from three other nalas (Picket, Balkapur and Banjara) is treated at sewerage treatment plants near NTR Marg Road and Minister’s Road.
