With mercury levels at the highest from the past five days, the district had turned into a blazing inferno. Situations have gone worse with days becoming hot right from 8 am in the morning and by 11 am the temperature is registering 46 degrees Celsius followed by hot winds. Except for the workingmen, everyone is confined indoors fearing sun stroke.

Situations have gone worse with days becoming hot right from 8 am in the morning and by 11 am the temperature is registering 46 degrees Celsius followed by hot winds. Except for the workingmen, everyone is confined indoors fearing sun stroke.
Florence, a resident of lodge centre says, “It appears as if the hot winds are coming straight from the hell and hitting people hard, causing sun stroke.” It’s not surprising to note that the RTC buses are running with hardly any passengers during the day. The hot summer is eating away lives of old people.
Nearly 20 cases of deaths attributing to sunstroke were reported during the past five days from Bapatla, Amaravathi, Sitharampuram, Allurivaripalem, Karampudi, Rompicherla, Cherlapalem, Pedakakani, Narasaraopeta, Rentichintala, Uppalapadu, Dirgi and Machavaram in the district.
“Hot winds blowing are similar to a volcanic eruption. Traffic policemen are the worst sufferers, regulating traffic on roads melting tar,” Rama Rao, a resident of Brodipet observes. Several people are also complaining of skin itching and infections caused by the pricking heat. While summer is proving to be a hell for most people, fancy shop owners are happy with the increase in sales of sunscreen lotions.

Many people who are postponing their domestic works to evenings are finding it difficult to crisscross the main roads and market places due to heavy traffic and road congestion. The condition is so worse that people are praying to gods for immediate end of Rohini Karthulu and early monsoon arrival.
