Temperatures remained between 45ºC to 47ºC in several cities of the two states while Khammam district recorded the highest temperature in 68 years with 47.8ºC and Vijayawada at 47.3ºC. Meteorologists state that the high temperatures are due to the insulation and the absence of cloud cover with afternoons turning the hottest due to the radiations from the sun and ground.


With Hyderabad witnessing a maximum temperature of 42.5ºC, places like Ramagundam, Nizamabad, Machilipatnam, Nandigama and Bapatla were sizzling with Ramagundam temperature reaching 46.1ºC and Nizamabad at 45.1ºC. Even the temperatures in AP rose over normal temperature making a massive impact.


According to Indian Meteorological Department, the heat wave conditions are expected to continue till Monday in all 10 districts of TS and nine districts of AP. However, the meteorologists suggested that relief would be expected in the first week of June.


IMD meteorologist M. Narsimha Rao informed that the heat spells are common during the pre-monsoon season but this year the heat wave is continuing for a longer period and there is activity recorded in the Bay of Bengal. He further added that rains can be expected if there is some low pressure system.
