Hyderabad: A 34-year-old housewife committed suicide after she was denied monthly quota of ration by the local fair price shop dealer. The victim, Renuka, a sweeper with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), took the extreme step by setting herself ablaze at her mother's residence in Mahalaxmi Colony, under Jeedimetla police limits.

On Saturday, Renuka went to the ration shop where the dealer asked her to come in the evening. She went into depression as the ration dealer had forced her to visit his shop many times in the last one week for 12 kg rice.

“Renuka left the ration shop and went home. She lighted a matchstick and set herself ablaze,” Jeedimetla Inspector A. Chandrasekhar said while quoting her relatives. The neighbours rushed to her rescue after hearing her screams. She was immediately rushed to the Gandhi Hospital where she died a few hours later.
