Created following the Presidential Order of 1973, the zones as per Article 371(D) of the Constitution were to provide job opportunities for Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana districts. Undivided Andhra Pradesh had six zones – two zones - Zones V and VI in Telangana and remaining four in Seemandhra.


20 percent of the total posts particularly while filling district-level posts, should be offered under open merit quota in the zonal system.
