England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that former Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss has been appointed as the head coach of the England team.

Bayliss will join the ECB next month and will take the charge of the team for the start of the Ashes.

After his recruitment by the newly appointed director of England cricket, Andrew Strauss, Bayliss said that he firmly believed that team would have a bright future.

The Guardian quoted him, as saying that it was an honour to be appointed as England's coach, and adding that this was a great opportunity to help Alastair Cook and Eoin Morgan shape the direction and development of their respective teams.

The New South Wales coach was running for the job last year also before Peter Moores was appointed.

Strauss said that Trevor has an outstanding record as coach and is highly regarded in the game globally.

He insisted that the Australian has proved himself in both domestic and international cricket and has a strong reputation for management and has shown how to build winning teams in all the three formats of the game.
