With the heat wave sweeping the region, the death toll has reached to 852 in AP and 340 in Telangana as on Wednesday. In 48 hour time span, 550 lives have been lost in AP and 125 in Telangana.

With the heat wave sweeping the region, the death toll has reached to 852 in AP and 340 in Telangana as on Wednesday. In 48 hour time span, 550 lives have been lost in AP and 125 in Telangana. While Prakasam district in AP topped the death toll list by claiming 202 lives, Nalgonda district in Telangana claimed 99.


A senior IMD official stated that due to the combined effect of the north-westerly winds blowing northwards along with existence of a trough over the entire east coast, the heat wave is more severe in Coastal Andhra Pradesh when compared to Telangana.


The heat wave is expected to continue in AP, Telangana till Thursday, the Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning for Ranga Reddy, Adilabad, Warangal, Nalgonda, Khammam, Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts in TS and West Godavari, East Godavari, Krishna, Prakasam, Nellore and Guntur districts of coastal AP.

The reopening of colleges has been postponed by the Board of Intermediate Education in Telangana due to the prevailing weather conditions from June 1-8. Nevertheless, the temperature is expected to decrease gradually after Thursday and rainfall occurrence is also expected in both the states.
