US educated Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar was crowned the new Maharaja of Mysuru at a coronation ceremony on Thursday. As many as 30 rituals were performed as part of the anointment ceremony.
Unlike the coronation of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar on October 16, 1974 which was a private affair, this time the royal celebrations saw Governor, Chief Minister, ministers, local MPs and royal families from across the country mark their presence. The coronation was preceded by an adoption ceremony where he was adopted by the Maharani, Pramoda Devi as Yaduveer is the grand-nephew of the previous king who passed away in 2013.
