Hyderabad: Barkatpura Housing Board Colony Association has become the first safe colony in the East Zone with closed-circuit television (CCTVs) under ‘Nigha Netram’ project. The residents have installed 16 CCTVs at four gates and at all entry points of the colony.


The project which came at a cost of about Rs 8.25 lakh was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy on Friday. The cost of the installation of CCTVs, four gates and boom barricades was borne by 400 colony members who took the initiative of empowering the community and neighbourhood through the safe colony concept.

There is a CCTV monitoring panel made available to the community for continuous vigil by community itself. The cameras feed are also made accessible to the members of the Residents Association on the need basis, on their cell phone on 24 x 7 basis.“A number of places like Tirumala Hills Colony Malakpet, Badi Chowdi Sultanbazar, Saibaba Temple lane DD Colony Amberpet the installation of CCTV cameras are on the verge of completion in East Zone,” DCP (East) Dr V Ravinder who has been invited as the guest of honour. “It is planned to cover 60 to 70 per cent of the Hyderabad City area with CCTVs within a span of six to nine months with the involvement of communities,” the CP said.
