An air passenger arriving from Muscat was arrested at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad on Saturday on the charge of being involved in illegal transportation of four kilograms of gold. The gold valued at Rs 1.08 crore was subsequently seized by the officials.

Hyderabad: An air passenger arriving from Muscat was arrested at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad on Saturday on the charge of being involved in illegal transportation of four kilograms of gold. The gold valued at Rs 1.08 crore was subsequently seized by the officials.


According to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the passenger, who arrived from Muscat by an Oman flight on Saturday, was intercepted by the officials about possession of any prohibited goods, to which he denied. However, after detailed examination, the sleuths recovered 4 kgs of gold concealed deftly in his bag. The DRI officials said that the accused could be involved in a suspected gold smuggling racket.
