Hyderabad: Come July and Telangana will be home to a brand new airlines. Turbo Megha Airways Private Limited promoted by city-based Turbo Aviation with active backing of Ramcharan Teja, film star and son of mega star Chiranjeevi, is gearing up to commence commercial operations under ‘Trujet’ brand in the first week of July. “We are ready to launch the operations, but awaiting approvals from DGCA. Once we receive the go-ahead, we will commence operations in the first week of July,” V Umesh, Managing Director, Turbo Aviation Private Limited, told The Hans India.

Trujet which will operate its maiden flight between Hyderabad and the temple city of Tirupati will initially connect cities such as Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh and Hubli in Karnataka in addition to some other destinations, including Aurangabad, Shirdi and Mangalore. The airline has licence to operate across south India. “We have already received first of three aircraft we are planning to deploy. The second one will arrive soon,” he explained. As of now, the regional schedule airlines will operate only ATR 72-500 aircraft procured on lease.

The aircraft can carry 72 passengers. According to Umesh, the initial investment that will go into the Trujet will be around Rs 70 crore in the first year. “We will invest more as we expand our operations in the future,” he maintained. However, he refused to divulge the shareholding pattern of the company and the quantum of investment that Ramcharan Teja will make.

“The information is confidential. So, I will not be able to disclose those details at this point of time,” he said. Umesh, hailing from Tirupati and a mechanical engineer by profession, is no stranger to the aviation sector. He worked for an aircraft maintenance company for a decade before setting up Turbo Aviation in 2003.

Initially, the company handled aircraft maintenance and ground handling services for several airlines including Air Deccan, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and SpiceJet. Subsequently, he established air charter services in Hyderabad, which currently has more than 25 corporate clients. Turbo Aviation which has a headcount of 600 people is also in the process of setting up component MRO in the city.

“As we have been in this sector for so many years, we have seen failures of several airlines including Kingfisher and Paramount. So, we have evolved a business plan that will correct all the mistakes committed by them. We want to maintain a small fleet not exceeding 10 aircraft and go for slow and steady expansion,” he said.
