He is the youngest and the only surgeon from south India elected to the apex office of ABSI that represents general surgeons, surgical oncologists and plastic surgeons practicing the art and science of breast surgery all over India.

Having played a pivotal role in establishing ABSI, Dr Raghu Ram served as the founding honorary secretary of ABSI from 2011 – 2013. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to improving breast healthcare in India through a number of unique and innovative initiatives, Dr Raghu Ram was recently conferred Padma Shri Dr Ram promised to work on three major issues in the next two years.

He wants to conduct a pan India population based breast cancer screening programme to save lives, develop a uniform 'ABSI Breast Surgery Training module' for practicing general surgeons and establish a one year 'ABSI Overseas Fellowship Programme' to train budding surgeons and surgical trainees interested in obtaining advanced subspecialty training in breast surgery at renowned centres of excellence in the United Kingdom.
