TRS bitten by Cong bug

Hyderabad: Now, TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is reported to have plans of ‘poaching’ the scions of senior Congress leaders in Telangana into his party. As many as nine Congress leaders’ sons have been contacted by TRS brigades and efforts are on to woo them by assuring party posts and tickets in the next elections.

The sons of Congress leaders are being told that they will get a very good platform and will be the ‘new generation’ leaders in Telangana in the coming years. TRS sources claim that CLP leader K Jana Reddy’s son Raghu Reddy and former PCC president D Srinivas’s son Sanjay have already decided to join the pink party.

It may be mentioned here that Jana Reddy’s son had made a vain attempt to get TRS ticket to contest from the Miryalguda Assembly constituency in Nalgonda district during 2014 elections. It is said that KCR had assured all kinds of help to promote Jana’s son as a leader from the party in Nalgonda district. DS has also been keeping distance from Congress party activities.

He did not meet even party in-charge Digvijay Singh when the latter was in city on Sunday. DS has been sulking since he was denied MLC ticket in the recently-concluded biennial elections under the MLA quota. Sanjay, who was the Mayor of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation (2006-11), has been away from politics.

Sources said the TRS had assured him of party ticket to contest from one of the constituencies in Nizamabad district. Similarly, party senior leader and one of the protagonists during the Telangana movement R Damodar Reddy, who has been keeping away from party activities after his defeat in the election, is keen to field his son R Sarvotham Reddy in 2019 elections.

Sources said his son was contacted by KCR’s close aides recently asking him to join TRS. Damodar Reddy is reportedly holding talks with his followers on his son’s foray into politics from the TRS. Former Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy’s son Karthik Reddy, who contested from the Chevella Lok Sabha constituency and lost to the TRS and Congress leader Ch Muthyam Reddy’s son Srinivas Reddy were also contacted.

Karthik has reportedly declined the offer at this movement in the wake of political developments taking place in the state after the cash-for-vote scam unearthed by the ACB but Srinivas Reddy is said to have expressed his willingness to join the TRS. Former Assembly Speaker KR Suresh Reddy’s son Amith Reddy, who is a businessman in Nizamabad, was also offered TRS ticket to contest form the Balkonda constituency.

The TRS leadership is also in touch with the sons of senior Congress leaders form Hyderabad. Congress leader M Sashidhar Reddy’s son Aditya Reddy (Youth Congress leader in the united AP) was offered a plum post in GHMC for which the elections are slated to be held in December.

Another Congress scion who is all set to join the TRS is Vikram Goud, son of former minister Mukesh Goud. Initially, Mukesh showed inclination to join the TDP along with his son. The political developments taking place in the TDP after the cash-for-vote scam is said to have brought a change in his thinking.
