Plant a sapling in memory of your loved ones
Doing something special to remember an important occasion in your life or buying a gift for your near and dear ones, has always been a practice to remember people and important dates. But, planting a tree in memory of your loved ones or deceased or any other event is something unique. This not only helps you keep your memories alive, but also uphold the cause of conservation of environment.

But, planting a tree in memory of your loved ones or deceased or any other event is something unique. This not only helps you keep your memories alive, but also uphold the cause of conservation of environment.
The tradition of planting saplings in memory of someone or some event is an age-old practice in the country. The emotional support provided by saplings planted in the memory of loved ones is even bigger. Keeping an eye on agro-forestry development that complements Haritha Haaram, a massive afforestation programme to improve the green cover in the State, the district administration has mooted a plan to bring up ‘Smriti Vanam’ said to be the brainchild of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

It’s learnt that land at Bestamcheruvu near Mamnoor located on the suburbs of Warangal city has been identified for the Smriti Vanam. This land will be transferred to the forest department to carry out the programme immediately. The plan is to allow the people to plant a sapling in memory of their loved ones. Of course it’s not free of cost.
Those who planted a sapling will have to pay for it every year. In return they will get access to the garden to spend time or to pay tribute to their loved ones. It’s learnt that ample of space will be given between the trees so that the people could sit and spend time. “Besides the forest department, the Council for Green Revolution, a Hyderabad-based NGO, with concern and commitment towards protection of Environment and Promotion of Sustainable Development, will extend its support for the Smriti Vanam”, District Collector Vakati Karuna said.
The administration is expected to disclose the guidelines such as annual fee and the entry guidelines for those interested in planting a sapling in the Smriti Vanam soon. G Sriram Reddy, an environmentalist, said, “It’s a huge plan to remember someone we love a lot. People speak a lot about conservation of environment, but nobody take up plantation activity, which will preserve our nature and beautify the surroundings”.
